Biographical Data and Poetry Criticism Through "Baharistan"
Baharıstan, whıch the anginal name ıs Ravzatu 'f-A lıwlr ve Tuhfetii '1-Ehr/ir,
consists of an ıntroductıon, eıght parts, and a conclusıon. In these eıght parts the
main subjects are the views, ıdeas and wrıtings of famous sophists; the attrıbutes of
justice, moderation which must belong to the admınish·ators; generosıty and the
manners of generous people; love and the characterıstics of lovers; anecdotes;
poems·and poets; stories told by amınals (fables) and the lessons to be taken from
them. The most significiant part of Baharistan, in fact, the seventh part "yedınci
ravza" in which the poets are mentıoned. In thıs part, canu wntes the biographies of
39 of previous poets. This artıele mostly focuses on tl11S part. Thıs part ıs evaluated
ın terrus of tezkerecilik tradıtıon and ıt is examıned ın terms of bıographıc
knowledge and poem critiques.
