ALI DASHTİ, A MODERN STORY WRITER OF IRAN
Modern story-writing begins in the form of the historical novel
with the works of writers like Müsâ Nasrî and San'atizâdeh. Persian writers
began to introduce social criticism into their novels. A favorite theme
among thesc authors, brought up with a knowledge of western views of
society was the problem of the Iraman woman and her social statııs.
If we wish to trace the course of story writing in Iran from the
historical point of veiw, we must mention two extremenly well-known
vvriters: 'Ali Dashti and Muhammad Hicazi side by side with Jamalzadeh
and Hidayat. 'Ali Dashti is one of the most conroversial figüre in the
literature and politics of modern Iran. He was born into a middle elass
family with a strict background in 1896 in Karbalâ. His first contact with
